Breakin' the Rulezzzz...

For the past few years I have contended with the fact that I am...plus sized...While I have made changes in the past to address this issue and "fix" it, the fact still remains that every time I shop in a store or online I hope and pray that the merchandiser picked out lovely, curve appealing clothing for a person with my figure. Up until recently I have lived with the notion that being a certain size means that I cannot break the SIX cardinal rules!

1. ALWAYS wear black, it's flattering and hides imperfections!

2. Stay clear of stripes...specifically HORIZONTAL ONES, they make you look larger!

3. NEVER wear white...it is the enemy..yo will look like a huge white cloud

4. SKINNY JEANS are for SKINNY people

5. Loose clothing is a NO- NO... makes you look fatter...

6. Spandex SHOULD be AVOIDED!

These five rules are not only annoying, they are also outdated. Since these rules were created over 100 years ago (lol), clothing has evolved, especially plus size clothing. We have since moved far beyond all black uniforms, huge floral prints and the tasteless, disgusting, huge polka dots that were once considered fashionable for a plus size diva.

I break ALL of the above rules. All women, even plus size women, are shaped differently thus we wear clothes differently, so for now I live by the motto that "There is nothing that a pair of SPANX, a good bra and nice shoes can't fix."

Okay, I am a self proclaimed girly girl to the fullest. I have never really been into sports, sweating or anything recreational. Just the thought of seaty gym socks, jogging, sweating and wearing non- sneakers fashionable sneakers gives me hives. I will openly admit now that in middle school I was so against "dressing out" for gym and participitaing in things that would make me smell like a gym locker in my next class that I actually failed gym...Yea you read it correctly...I FAILED GYM! I actually had to spend the following summer in "summer school" for gym, and guess what!!??!!...I was not the only one!

I even played softball as a kid. My parents pretended that that I was pretty good and a assest to the team, but I was no dummy I knew the truth, I sucked and would never play another sport after that douting season of softbal ended.

While I hate sports, espcially participating in them...I LOVE watching BOXING and I am a Floyd Mayweather HATER! Yep..I said it, but this last fight was awesome! Usually we must endure all the rounds of the fight and anxiously wait while the judges tally up the scores, but over the weekend the world actually got to se a stone cold knock out and it was AWESOME!

Hair Update...

Yes! Divas, I am still a natural beauty. As I have mentioned before *just in case some of you doubted me* I will never go back to a relaxer. Although life as a mom has distorted my usual hair routine, I still know that my hair is much healthier than it was when I was addicted to the hair crack back in the day. This coming October I will have officially been natural for a total of eight years and I do not regret it one bit.

Today, my newly revised routine has consisted of a wash once a week and protective styles*SOMETIMES* wink..wink.. Pictures coming soon!!

Baby Brooke's Debut!

Brooke- Danielle was born Feb 25, 2011 @ 2:33am, she has been a gift to two very confused, excited...did I say confused....parents. She keeps us on our toes at the weeeeee hours of the morning and that precious little one has us wrapped around her fingers soooooooo tightly*especially daddy!* that we both cannot imagine exactly what we were doing before she came along. While we both already had goals that we wanted to reach, she alone @ 8lbs 11.5 ounces, after TWO DAYS IN LABOR, NO MEDS, on 2-25-11 gave our goals new meaning! Everything that we do is for her and I nEvEr in a million years thought that my little bugger would mean so much to me but she does and EVERYTHING that I must endure and sacrifice from 2-25-11 on, is worth it.

If you do not have a kid I am certain you do not understand and you have probably moved on to the next post by now...oooorrr you are rolling your eyes as you read, but trust me someday you will understand and it is FANTASTIC diva!

Public Service Announcement and TMI: While I do love my little one more than anything...even red bottom heels...I must say that divas Brooke is enough for now so with my Mirena Birth control in place for five years I salute all of the home makers, and bearers of multiple children...hunni that is not ME! Dueces!!

Wow it has truly ben toooo long! We must catch up my lovies!

Let's see.... Since my last post..Big inhale ladies....I have had a baby, finished college, moved into a much large space, been on several unsuccessful job interviews, learned that life is more than fashion, shopping, money, gossip and blogs and most importantly I have found brace yourself....exhale ladies... MYSELF...

Now granted I am still rather young...technically a good ole' sprang chicken as my southern grannies would say! But I must say that a lot has been learned and you will def see that as my blog changes juuussssttt a smidgett!!

I still lloooooove fashion, and live for red bottom shoes, but ladies I am much more conscious of this "great big ole' world around me" and I long to be a staple in it's change for he better. With that said I will still talk about all things fab, and PINk!, but I will also talk about important things that need mentioning....My dausghter reaching certain milestones annnnddd *eye's looking up, pointer finger on chin*stuff like Snooki's weight loss....J/P....Smile and happy bloggin'

We all know that the warm weather is right around the corner, and for me this means I have the right to wear all of the bold, bright colors that I want! This spring/summer, I decided that I would concentrate on using various colors on my nails.

While in Sally's beauty Supply recently, I completely fell in love with the wonderful hues of color in the China Glaze and OPI brands...I am waiting for more of them to go on sale, but until then I chose to get a purple, green, turquoise, pink and yellow!

Okay, so you all know that recently i had my hair bleached to a Honey Blondie-ish pigment in the middle and the perimeter of my hair was a very dark brown color. I noticed that my ends looked a little raggedy and decided that it was time for me to have my ends clipped.

I decided to go to a professional, not realizing that she did not know much about natural hair textures and the variations in its appearance. She assumed that all of the ends that looked "bushy" needed to be chopped off. Due to having 4a-ab type hair, you can imagine that a great deal of my hair was cut, for no reason at all.

Initially I was angry, but decided that there was nothing that I could do, so i quickly moved on.

I have noticed that it is growing much quicker, and decided that I would wear lots of protective styles and go back to using more holistic products.

Is this a sign that chaos exist?...duhn...duhn...duhn...

They say that having a messy house is a sure sign that your life is a haute' mess. My boyfriend and I do a pretty good job at keeping "company areas" clean. You know those areas, that you are only concerned about because someone may stop by unannounced!

Our friends seem to be really comfortable when it comes to our place so we have to keep the kitchen, bathroom, and living room as clean as possible, which is cool because we always hang out in those areas any way. But out bedroom is always a haute fool of a mess. When we both get dressed in the mourning it is total chaos. We throw clothes, deodorant, underwear, lotion, makeup, jewelry and whatever else we use all over the place just to get ready for work.

Once we come back home and see what crime we have committed against all things clean, we become overwhelmed and go back and forth about who should clean it up. I actually did a small survey with a few of my friends to see if all of there chaos seems to isolated to one room, and ironically they all, except a few OCD prone buddies, said YES.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Is a portion of my life chaotic and this messy room is a sign of that? Could this be the reason he and I don't sleep very well at night? I am not sure! But something has got to give!!

Off to clean, and wish me luck!

When I went away to college I had never met a Haitian but a friend of mine from South Florida informed me that most Haitians where she was from tried to hide the fact that they were Haitian in hopes of avoiding mistreatment. I never understood such negative indentations associated with this group of people but my friend stood firm in her belief that they in some way was less than the rest of the African descended population and they had lots to be ashamed of.

After the latest disaster in Haiti, my mother began to do lots of research on the nation and she brought to my attention that unlike most Black nations Haitians have a rich heritage if people would take the time to get to know it. I decided to go against all of the horrible things that I had heard about them in the past and research there history for myself. They truly have a lot to be proud of! There heritage is the reason many of them have such Haitian pride, they wear there beautiful flags and truly love one another.

One of the things that many African Americans don't realize is that we do not have a really strong history to connect with. We were ripped away from that during the slave trade. Most of our history is based on what we read in textbooks and fractured stories that we heard in school. My hear cries out for the multitudes of African Americans who don't know where Haiti is on a map, or those who have not been touched by such a horrific ordeal. I cry out for those who look at these people and see animals, or feel no remorse for them. I am sad for you. This effects us all and can be fixed by us all, but many of us are to selfish to see that!

I have decided that not only will I help financially, I will continue to do so once the media moves on to there next big story. Currently there are many helpers in there nation, but after the dust settles I want to ensure that I continue to do something ad never forget. This will take many years to prepare and I pray that you remember as well!

You all should know by now that I totally stan for Old Navy (is that possible?). My favorite pair of Old Navy jeans are the Diva Style, skinny leg, short at a healthy size 16 and I wore them so often that I managed to walk a hole into each leg, near the back part of my inner thigh. I was convinced that if I wore a pair of tights under the jeans with a matching top, people would actually think that they were made that way, and most of all I could go on wearing them with confidence and a smile on my face. That bubble of delusion was burst by my mother (the voice of reason), she was sure to inform that not only could she tell they were not made that way, they were also pretty unflattering. I vowed then, that as soon as I was able to purchase a new pair, I would.

Per Christmas gifts I was able to purchase a new pair recently. I spent hours in Old Navy looking for the perfect pair that would fill me with joy and satisfaction as my "favorite" pair had. I watched as all the skinny chicks went directly to there size 1's and 2's and raced for the register. The thick chick in me began to recite over and over "You have to hurry up and lose more weight" and "You have to do better". Eventually I found two pairs and without hesitation, I went to the register and smiled all the way home.

After, putting on my jeans, a few hours into them I realized that I could go down a size, to a 14.

I decided that instead of making my next goal a specific amount of pounds I wanted to work toward getting into a size 14 comfortably and confidently.

So how, will I do it?...Any suggestions?

Sorry the pics are blurry, the idea of photographing the new look was a after thought @ 1a.m.

I told you guys that I was going to leave my hair alone for the remainder of the winter, and that is exactly what I have done.

I shampooed my hair with Taliah Waajid stimulating herbal cleanser and conditioned with the enhancing herbal conditioner. I then detangled my hair and moisturized my scalp with Design Essentials Herbal Complex 4 Hair and Scalp treatment.

I decided that the easiest thing for me to do with all of this hair, is to flat twist it and pin the back up so that my ends are protected and rubbing against my skin. This simple style took me about and hour and a half to complete (shampooing and drying included)

At this point I have no clue how long it will last, but as usual, I will keep you ladies posted!

P.S. I think it is time for some new color...what do you think??

Pink is Always Sweet!!

Over the Holidays my grandmother and uncle blessed me monetarily, so like any other diva in such a position I went to the mall...After going crazy in Old Navy I decided to head to the parking lot, until I was hit by the sweet aroma pouring out of the Bath and Body Works shop. It had been so long since my senses had been disrupted by such passionate aromatic love it truly threw me for a loop. As soon as I turned the corner I was struck by these beautiful pink bottles and I just had to inquire It was Drenched in PINK by Victoria Secret...FYI: I have not been disappointed, this stuff Rocks! The lotion is creamy and great for my dry skin and the scented spray is sooo sweet! I just love it...xoXOxo..

The power of lemon water!

Lets face it sometimes drinking water can be extremely boring and obviously tasteless! Lately my grandmother has been drinking lots of lemon water. She asked me to find out how lemons benefit the body!

Today I decided to do a search and was shocked to find that Lemons are extremely beneficial and from this day forward, I will be following my grandmother in the trend of drinking lemon water on a regular basis.

Lemons help with digestion and the breaking down of fat. This tart fruit also offers lots of potassium and vitamins. The potassium that it offers is uber great, especially for those who work out regularly!

We all know that Black is the new EVERYTHING, versatile and totally Slimming, but sometimes it can get a little old. Recently I went for a pretty therapeutic trip to the mall and fell in love with various shades of ash!! I ended up buying a few ashy tops, 1 pair of ash denim jeans, blue denim jeans and a ashy striped scarf. I think that I am going to be looking for a few more pieces for the winter months! 2010 is such a huge year for me, I am sooo excited about the new year because I know that my life is going to change in many ways. 2010 is the year that I will officially graduate from college and the year that I can truly seek financial stability. I have talked before about graduation and how anxious I am about it! I have worked really hard and I know that it is all about to pay off. My family and BF have been really great support systems both emotionally and finacially. But I think that it is time for me to to become more independent and take care of my self. For most this may be scary, but I am sooooo stoked!!!

Treadmill Weightloss Challenge!!!!!!!

As of today I am officially in beast mode. Recently I informed you guys that my next goal is to get down to 199 lbs! Well my friends, the challenge begins today!! 220lbs is where I currently stand and that must change. My thoughtful beau Tuna, brought home a beautiful treadmill that he was gifted by his sister an brother in law! As soon as I saw it I was soooo excited. Lately it has been really hard for me to get into the gym, but with a machine right in my home, I have no excuse!! YAAAAYYY!!!....I am also going to be incorporating weight and resistance training but the bulk of my calories will be burnt by way of heavy cardio! Now although I am in a hurry to lose the weight and feel great, SAFETY matters and that will not change. Here are a few tips for my fellow treadmill users...Happy Sweating!

Tips:

1. Always Warm Up

2. Increase the workout slowly

3.Wear comfortable shoes, with socks

4. Always cool down

Salad Dressing Happiness!!

Most of us healthy divas, by now, know that most of the calories from a delicious salad comes from the salad dressing. We have even gotten tips from the celebs and nutritionist that it is best to have your dressing on the side and dip each bite with your fork into the dish of salad dressing!....I have found, that this method does usually work for me and I use less dressing! BUT...Divas, what about those heavy dippers? You know, the ones who like a little bit of salad with there dressing!

The Solution:

To avoid this uber easy mistake I have learned how to "stretch" my salad dressing! The goal is to only use a serving of dressing, but lets face it, sometimes that just is not enough. So, what I do is toss my salad in one servinf of my favoriate dressing. Then I cut a fresh lemon and squeeze all of the juice over my entire salad.

If you are not a fan of lemons, you could substitute with almost any fruit, that has its own natural tasty juices!

Initially when I started this blog I wanted to discuss my hair a lot in hopes of inspiring people to love there natural beauty no matter how curly, or coily it may be. Over time I feel that I have unintentionally left that subject behind, and divas I feel that it is time for an update!

I have had lots of growth, added new color, and played around with various styles. I have yet to invest in a protective style,but I promise one is sure to come. Hi guys I am officially back and in full throttle!!...I know that it has been an extremely long time since I have checked in with you guys, and I have really missed you all. This blog is really therapeutic for me and in a sense I have really been out of sync due to my absence.

Updates:

Fashion: I am obviously still a diva, and that ladies will never change. Now this diva is still a "student fashionista" so I am still on the prowl for the latest deals and steals. I am still overwhelmingly in love with Target, Forever 21, Torrid,GAP, Wal mart, Old Navy and Modcloth. You all know that I live in Florida therefore I have not had the opportunity to wear the extremely warm clothes that I love oh so much!...Stay tuned for haute' finds and fashion deals and steals!

Weight loss: I must say, this weight loss thing is going much better that I ever anticipated! I have healthy support from my family and my boyfriend and I am amazed at how well I have stayed on track. I am in no way as disciplined as I was before but I have definitely made some huge life changes and as a result of those changes I am currently at 219. Looking back when I was 278ish, I remember how unhappy and miserable I was and that keeps me going. Last time I was here I had lost 30lbs and made a promise 2 you all and myself that I would never gain the weight again, and divas that promise I have kept. My current goal is to get to 199.99. This goal may seem petty to many of you, especially my smaller divas but for me it means that I am no longer in the 200's, for me that is HUGE,and I will never allow myself to get that heavy again! After reaching this goal I will set another for 150 and so on! I am eager to give you guys more updates and advice please stayed tuned, and feel free to ask for help or advice if needed!

School: "School...School Don't Be Late"...those of you that followed the blog before know that completing my bachelors and masters degree has been my ultimate goal. Last May should have been the year that I graduated, but due to bad decisions and finances I fell behind, but I have been determined to finish. I can now say that I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am sooooo excited, I just can't contain myself! Currently I am enrolled at a prestigious university who has allowed me to enroll in there online psychology classes. It is an accelerated program where classes are only 8 weeks each as opposed to the usual 12-16 wks! At times I feel overwhelmed but I continue to push forward! Wish me BLESSINGS!!!

After a month long hiatus from the gym and healthy living, on Monday I decided to get back at it. Although I am very happy that I have lost 37lbs, on my own with no fad dieting or outrageous pills, I know that there is a lot more work for me to do, in order to get to my goal. I didn't want to be that person that lost 37lbs but still fat! Soooooo I hit the gym on Monday, Tuesday and today and it feels great. With my new work schedule I had to make time and devise a new schedule to help e to meet my goals. So don't worry guys I am still at it and strong as ever....just like before I still have a few set backs from time to time (Starbucks, McDonalds, Fried Food and Juice) but that's life right?

When I was in high school my English teacher Mr.Baldwin was very adamant about getting my peers and I to read and get involved with the literature.....he always made the material interesting and some of my favorite books are those that I read in his class. One of the books I will never forget was titled Push written by Sapphire and I am sooooo excited about the movie that is about to hit movie theaters all over. Lately it has been receiving rave reviews and all of the clips look great! Although I pretty much know how the story will end...something tells me that I will still be shocked and amazed!!

Leading into the cooler months we have been discussing the fact that one of the"it" colors at this time is BLACK!....As of late we have been seeing most of the celebs and socialites that we love draped in dark colors from head to toe and most of them look great!

Some people are soooo afraid of the dark colors because they don't want to look goth or emo, but really black is a complimenting color especially when paired with other splashes of color! Most of all though....black is slimming, so why not give it a try??

Over the Labor day weekend I celebrated with my aunt and her family at a bbq! Ya'll I ate soooo much meat and junk that I feel stuffed two days later! Since I started eating better it is really hard for me to put away heavy food like ribs, chicken, starches and alcohol, without paying for it later. I feel so heavy and stuffed. At this point I have decided to stay away from the meat and heavy food for the entire week because the meat that I ate over the weekend is sure to stay in me for a while! ughhh...I will never out myself through this again, but hey we all have slip us...right?...Don't worry though! I know I am not a married woman and many of you divas probably cant understand why this couple bothers me so much. Well, before you judge me for cumming on her, let me just say that the both of them are a shame to me!

If you are in a unhappy relationship, whether it is a marriage or just a bf/gf situation, you need to end that relationship before stepping out and commit to another.....WHY?...well the new person deserves to have all of you in the relationship, and should be able to share the rewards of being in a happy relationship in public....instead of traveling out of the country and sneaking around like children!...Also the "old" party deserves closure, this party was once someone that you really cared for and may have children with, why would you want to hurt them by sneaking around, and having them hear about it from folk other than yourself.....Your children (if you have any) need your undivided attention, and explanations as o what is going on with mommie and daddy and why......So my issue is not that they chose to be together...instead my beef is with the fact that Swizz's wife had to find out in the worst way, WHICH HAD TO HURT, and no one seems to care!!......When will people learn to close one chapter in there lives before opening another??

Here are my photos....32lbs lighter....My stomach had definitely gone down. It does not feel so hard and bloated anymore....also I noticed that my back roll has gone down and that makes me really happy!! Due to these changes I have been able to fit into clothes from the back of my closet, I have more confidence and I have been motivated to up the routine for even better results!!

Okay okay Okay Okay....I have finally 9otten my Amber Rose fix for the week and I am now pretty pleased! Amber and the beau Kanye were spotted out and about in downtown Manhattan lookin9 absolutely adorable..... I Have have some shoes similar to the ones that Amber has on and honestly, I would have never thought to wear them with straight le9 pants the way that she has...I am sooo 9oing to try this look out, and I will be sure to let you know how that turns out!!!!

Usually, when you ask most people what there first big purchase will be after they graduate from collge, most of them respond by sayin things like a new car, a huge bed, a new place or even something really practical like paying off there student loans!!! Well call me crazy but I WANT A FENDI BAG!!!!!!

Divas I am convinced that Michael Kors designs look good on every body type! Just look at the photos, each woman is shaped differently and those MK jump suits from his 2007 fall collection is totally working for each one of them! Micheal Kors has been known to make wonderful pieces that work to a way a woman is made...That alone is a big deal, because there are lots of male designers who just can't get the cuts right for a woman! The ~~haters~~ bloggers are out and they just had to be mad at something today so they chose queen Kim.
